This photograph was taken during the author’s extended stay in Medjugorje, where he spent several months documenting pilgrims arriving from all continents. Unlike the mass tourism common elsewhere in Yugoslavia at the time, these visitors came primarily for spiritual reasons. The image shows believers engaged in an intimate moment of devotion, centered on a statue of the Virgin Mary, expressing faith through touch, prayer, and quiet concentration. Such scenes were common during evening and nighttime gatherings, often accompanied by softly sung religious hymns.
