Product Description
Empty store shelves in Belgrade during the first months of international sanctions imposed on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Following United Nations Security Council Resolution 757, adopted on May 30, 1992, a comprehensive economic embargo came into force due to accusations of involvement in the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
While those responsible for political decisions remained largely unaffected, the consequences were borne by ordinary citizens. Shortages of basic goods became part of everyday life, as people rushed to buy whatever was still available, often using deferred-payment checks. The photograph records the quiet, everyday impact of sanctions on civilian life.
