Product Description
After the leadership of Republika Srpska rejected the Vance–Owen Peace Plan, international political and economic pressure in the region intensified. On May 30, 1992, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 757, imposing a comprehensive international economic embargo on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The sanctions affected all segments of society — sports, culture, science, and the everyday lives of ordinary citizens.
The photograph shows a queue of people waiting in front of the German Consulate in Belgrade during winter. Similar scenes could be seen in front of embassies of other Western European countries, as well as Canada, Australia, and the United States. In an atmosphere of economic uncertainty and social isolation, many sought to leave the country, searching for a way out of life under sanctions.
