Product Description
In June 1993, during intense fighting around Travnik and neighboring areas in central Bosnia, strong units of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina launched heavy attacks that resulted in burned villages and numerous civilian casualties.
In those critical days, more than a thousand Croatian civilians and members of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) sought refuge in territory controlled by Serb forces. Despite being opposing sides in the conflict, local authorities organized emergency shelter for the displaced.
The photograph shows HVO soldiers and a smaller number of civilians temporarily accommodated inside one section of the former Manjača livestock farm. By mid-1993, the facility was no longer functioning as a detention camp but served as an improvised humanitarian shelter. Among the displaced were also several ethnic Serbs who fled together with Croatian civilians and HVO fighters from the same threatened areas.
This scene documents a rare moment of cross-ethnic assistance and survival amid the violence of the Bosnian war.
