Seen from the air, Belgrade at first appears familiar: rows of buildings, quiet neighborhoods cascading toward the Danube. But then the eye slips into a narrow fracture in the city, a ravine beneath Gardoš, and a scene unfolds that feels as if it had stepped out of Kurosawa’s Dodeskaden. A world built from sheet metal, wooden shacks, improvised roofs and footpaths known only to those who walk them every day.
This hidden enclave on the edge of the city functions like a stage for Fellini’s outsiders — people living on the margins, yet radiating an inexplicable strength. As in Amarcord, there is humor, melancholy, and that strange glow that appears when reality becomes so heavy it starts to resemble a dream.
From above, the contrast is brutal: modern apartment blocks shine in the distance, while in the ravine below unfold the intertwined routines of survival and improvisation. Yet, just like in Dodeskaden, there is a rhythm you cannot ignore — the rhythm of people who, despite everything, continue to live. This is the Belgrade rarely seen, the Belgrade beneath the panorama, the Belgrade that persists.

Kada se Beograd posmatra iz vazduha, najpre deluje poznato: redovi zgrada, mirni kvartovi koji se spuštaju ka Dunavu. Ali onda pogled sklizne u usku pukotinu grada, u jarak ispod Gardoša, i otvori se prizor koji kao da je ispao iz Kurosavinog filma Dodeskaden. Svet sastavljen od limova, drvenih baraka, improvizovanih krovova i staza koje vide samo oni koji njima svakodnevno prolaze.
Ovaj skriveni svet, na samom obodu grada, funkcioniše kao pozornica Fellinijevih marginalaca — ljudi koji žive na ivici, ali zrače nekom neobjašnjivom snagom. Kao u Amarcordu, ima tu i humora, i melanholije, i onog neobičnog sjaja koji se pojavi kada realnost postane toliko teška da počne da liči na san.
Sa visine, kontrast je brutalan: blokovi u daljini blistaju na suncu, dok se u jaruzi ispod njih prepliću svakodnevica preživljavanja i improvizacija. Ali, baš kao u Dodeskadenu, i ovde postoji ritam koji ne može da se ignoriše — ritam ljudi koji, uprkos svemu, nastavljaju da žive. To je Beograd koji se retko vidi, Beograd koji postoji ispod panorame, Beograd koji uporno traje.
