I knew that a partial solar eclipse would be visible from Serbia shortly before sunset, and I wanted to photograph it differently from the usual images of the sky. The eclipsed Sun alone was not enough for me. I was looking for something that would give the photograph a sense of place, scale and meaning.
In Mačvanska Mitrovica, I found a composition in which the Sun, with part of its disk already obscured by the Moon, appeared above the silhouette of the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Translation of the Relics of St. Nicholas.
I waited for the Sun to descend low enough to approach the crosses on the church domes. At that moment, everything else became almost completely black: the church, the trees and the rooftops turned into silhouettes, while against the orange sky only the brilliant disk of the Sun remained, with the eclipse clearly visible.
And so, without any staging, two ancient symbols came together in a single photograph — the Sun and the cross.

Znao sam da će se pred zalazak Sunca 12. avgusta 2026. godine iz Srbije videti delimično pomračenje i želeo sam da ga fotografišem drugačije od uobičajenih snimaka neba. Samo pomračeno Sunce nije mi bilo dovoljno. Tražio sam nešto što će fotografiji dati mesto, meru i značenje.
U Mačvanskoj Mitrovici pronašao sam kadar u kojem se iznad siluete Srpske pravoslavne crkve Prenosa moštiju Svetog Nikole pojavilo Sunce kojem je Mesec već oduzeo deo diska.
Čekao sam da se Sunce spusti dovoljno nisko i približi krstovima na kupolama. U tom trenutku sve ostalo postalo je gotovo crno: crkva, drveće i krovovi pretvorili su se u siluete, dok je na narandžastom nebu ostao samo blistavi disk Sunca sa jasno vidljivim tragom pomračenja.
Na fotografiji su se tako, bez ikakve režije, susrela dva veoma stara simbola — Sunce i krst.
