A Layered Facade

When I flew over this architectural space two days ago, while photographing for my photo-monograph A View of Belgrade, I wasn’t looking at the building — I was looking at the rhythm. Everything was subordinated to that almost perfect symmetry: the vertical lines of the façade, the evenly arranged panels, the shadows sliding down the walls as if they were part of a carefully choreographed stage set. And then, at the very center, like a Zen point, the glass dome appeared.
This atrium feels as if it were born from the meeting of architecture and mathematics, a space where rules and construction turn into pure aesthetics. Seen from above, shaped by that unusual dialogue between rectangular walls and the circular skylight, it becomes an almost abstract composition — something between a mandala and a futuristic urban seal.
These are precisely the structures I search for in my new monograph: moments in which the city becomes abstract, where architectural logic overpowers the everyday without losing its warmth. This atrium is one of those rare scenes that unite precision and poetry — and once you see it from the air, it forever changes the way you perceive the geometry of Belgrade.
