Product Description
The Vidovdan Assembly was held in Belgrade in June 1992, organized by the Democratic Movement of Serbia (DOS), during a period of severe political and social crisis. International sanctions against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia had been imposed shortly before the gathering, strongly influencing both the atmosphere and the speeches delivered at the event.
The central demand of the assembly was the resignation of Serbian President Slobodan Milošević. The protest brought together citizens from across Serbia, as well as prominent intellectuals. Writer Borislav Pekić sent a telegram of support to the assembly, marking one of his last public political gestures.
As the protests continued for several days, many participants from outside Belgrade remained in the city overnight, sleeping in improvised tents and in the open air in and around Pioneers Park. This photograph documents those scenes — protesters sleeping on sidewalks and green areas in front of the National Assembly building — capturing the atmosphere and persistence of civic resistance during that period.
