Product Description
In late March 1989, Miroljub Tanasković, a militia officer of the Yugoslav Ministry of Internal Affairs, was killed in an armed attack carried out by Albanian separatists. He was thirty-four years old. His death further intensified the tensions that had already been escalating for months in Kosovo and Metohija.
At the funeral, alongside family members, relatives, and local residents, police and military personnel are present. The coffin is covered with the Yugoslav flag. For the children of the fallen officer, only memories of their father remain, along with the flag of the state in whose service he lost his life.
This photograph bears witness to a moment of collective grief, but also to the atmosphere of fear and deep division that marked the late 1980s in Kosovo — a period when personal tragedies increasingly became part of a broader political and ethnic crisis.
