There are moments when a city is not simply seen — but revealed. As if someone above, unseen, briefly parts the clouds and lets a single ray of light find its way. It doesn’t illuminate everything. It doesn’t seek order. It only touches what lies in its path — rooftops, facades, the dome of the church — and then disappears.
All of it happens in silence, without warning and without repetition.
In a sea of heavy clouds, the light briefly turns the city into a stage. Parts of Belgrade emerge from the darkness, while the rest remains in shadow — like scenery waiting for its cue.
Such moments are fleeting. So brief that most people never even notice them.
This photograph captures exactly such a moment — a Belgrade that doesn’t last, but appears only for an instant before returning to its everyday face.
The photo monograph “Belgrade from Above”, to be published by the end of this year, presents different views of the city — from rooftops and courtyards to wide panoramas like this one.
I am almost certain that this image will become a double-page spread. Because it is not just a view — but a moment that will never happen again.

Postoje trenuci kada se grad ne vidi — već otkriva. Kao da neko odozgo, nevidljiv, na trenutak razmakne oblake i pusti svetlost da pronađe svoj put. Ne osvetli sve. Ne traži red. Samo dodirne ono što mu se nađe na putu — krovove, fasade, kupolu hrama — i nestane.
Sve se to desi u tišini, bez najave i bez ponavljanja.
U moru teških oblaka, svetlo na trenutak pretvara grad u scenu. Delovi Beograda izranjaju iz tame, dok ostatak ostaje u senci — kao kulisa koja čeka svoj red.
Takvi trenuci traju kratko. Dovoljno kratko da ih većina i ne primeti.
Na ovoj fotografiji uhvaćen je upravo takav trenutak — Beograd koji ne traje, već se samo na čas pojavi, pa se vrati u svoje svakodnevno lice.
Foto-monografija „Pogled na Beograd“, koja izlazi krajem ove godine, donosi različite poglede na grad — od krovova i dvorišta do širokih panorama poput ove.
Ova fotografija će, gotovo sam siguran, biti jedna od duplerica. Zato što nije samo pogled — već trenutak koji se više nikada neće ponoviti.
