Product Description
In June 1993, following a violent incident inside the Serbian Parliament in which a member of the Serbian Radical Party physically assaulted a deputy of the Serbian Renewal Movement, public protests erupted in front of the National Assembly under the slogan “Stop Fascism.” The demonstrations quickly escalated into clashes between protesters and police, with both sides hurling stones during street confrontations.
Under circumstances that were never fully clarified, one police officer was killed, and 131 people were arrested the same evening, including opposition leaders Vuk and Danica Drašković. Many detained protesters were reportedly subjected to severe beatings during police operations, provoking strong domestic and international reactions.
This photograph documents the human cost of those events, showing an injured protester receiving care, emphasizing the personal consequences of political violence during a period of deep social and political turmoil in Serbia.
